The first sculpture represents Kwan Yin (Guanyin), the Bodhisattva of Compassion who listens to the cries of all beings and vows to bring relief from suffering. In Japanese belief, Guanyin is said to manifest in thirty-three different forms to save all sentient beings. The sculpture bears the signature of Makita Shūun, a skilled Buddhist sculptor from Yokohama City, engraved on the reverse. It shows minor wear and traces of oxidation consistent with age. The second sculpture depicts Okina, one of the oldest characters in traditional Japanese Noh theatre. Okina symbolises longevity, prosperity, and peace, and is often performed as a sacred dance to bring blessings and harmony. The figure’s elaborate robes feature embossed motifs of phoenixes, hexagonal crests, and floral patterns. The phoenix symbolises immortality, virtue, and rebirth, while the hexagonal crest represents stability and longevity, inspired by the turtle shell pattern. The folding fan held in Okina’s hand is adorned with designs of Mount Fuji and clouds, further evoking auspicious meanings. The surface of Okina shows scuffs, small areas of paint loss, and dulling, with some verdigris visible on the fan. Overall, both sculptures remain in fair to good used condition. Please refer to the photos for details. Dimensions of Kwan Yin: approx. H 22.5 cm W 5.8 cm D 5.8 cm Dimensions of Okina: approx. H 20 cm W 17.8 cm D 8 cm ・Please make sure to review all the provided information and images before placing your bid. ・We make every effort to accurately represent the product's colors and textures in our photos.
