An original Akha statue from northern Thailand. These statues are placed next to the village gates to protect against evil spirits, diseases and dangerous humans and animals. Described in Elaine and Paul Lewis "Peoples of the Golden Triangle" p 224-6. This statue was bought in the antique market of Chaing Mai in the 1980's. It is probably from the early to mid 20th century. The statue is well weathered. Signs of woodworm holes are present. However, this item has been in possession for over 40 years with no further sign of deteriation. Height 83 cm, Width 23cm, depth 20 cm. The statue will be carefully packed and shiped with insurance.
