A BRONZE FIGURE OF BUDDHA MUCHALINDA Thailand - Lopburi Period, 14/15th century Shaded by a seven-headed serpent rising above his head to form a hood and coiled below him to provide support, Buddha Muchalinda sits protected by the weather. This fine cast bronze exhibits a strong Khmer influence, as is common for sculptures of the Lopburi period: the proportions of the body, and the treatment of the crown and hair all closely follow the contemporaneous Bayon style of Khmer sculpture.
