He had considerable scholarly interests in ceramics, tea studies, music, and epigraphy, and was skilled in playing the Song guqin, cuju (ancient football), jiju (a type of polo), hunting, archery, horsemanship, and painting. He created the "Slender Gold" script. The coins from his reign are extremely finely crafted, especially the Sheng Song Yuanbao, some of which feature inscriptions derived from ancient Shang and Zhou vessels. These are very beautiful ancient coins, with extremely exquisite calligraphy.
