罗马帝国. 卡利古拉 (公元 37-41). Dupondius for Germanicus. Rome - Germanicus, holding eagle-tipped sceptre and reins, driving triumphal

Dupondio Caligula Obverse: Julio César Germánico, depicted headless and wrapped in a cloak, standing in a quadriga facing right, holding a scepter topped with an eagle. Reverso: Legend 'SIGNIS RECEPT / DEVICTIS GERM', Germanic, head facing forward and wearing armor over a tunic, standing to the left, with the right hand raised and the left holding an eagle. This coin was issued by Emperor Caligula, son of Germanicus, approximately twenty years after the events, as a tribute to his father and to perpetuate his family’s memory and prestige. It is notable that Caligula omits his own name on the coin, dedicating it entirely to Germanicus. This Roman dupondius holds deep historical significance and commemorates a crucial episode in Roman imperial history: the recovery of the standards (aquilae) lost by Varo's legions after their defeat at the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest in 9 AD and the subsequent victorious campaign of Germanicus in Germania.
