This is a three-dimensional carp vase in the ancient Japanese style.
This vase was created based on ancient Japanese documents and reference materials.
It is a wonderful piece that three-dimensionally depicts swimming carp and ripples on the water's surface.
It has a similar feel to Lalique's FORMOSE vase.
FORMOSE was a 1925 piece influenced by Japanese Japonism.
Because the height and width are the same, it is said to represent a Japanese lantern.
This piece also has the same lantern shape.
Please see the last reference photo for both.
Hannya Kankei (1933-)
Started creating works under his father, also a craftsman, in 1950.
He recreates works of the time based on ancient Japanese documents.
His skill and rendition were highly praised, and he was commissioned by the Emperor to recreate treasures from Japan's Shosoin Repository (1975-).
It is in very good condition.
This is a vase with an ancient Japanese design.
