Wooden home altar, probably made of walnut, with a solid silver figure of crucified Christ. Europe. The figure is hallmarked with a letter D, also tested as silver.
Above the crucified Christ is a parchment engraved ‘INRI’, affixed by the Romans in jest. It is an abbreviation of the latin ‘Iesus Nazarenus, Rex Iudaeorum’ which translates as ‘Jesus of Nazareth King of the Jews’ written by Pontius Pilatus on the cross, according to the Bible. Estimated period 1850-1900 according to the fixations of the handmade screws and nuts. In very good condition.
