Offering to you an extremely rare & very interesting Motor Racing Ferrari Maserati memorabilia Lot original and official original signed letter 9/2/1965 by Gulglielmo "Mimmo" Dei (Roma 1909/1985) of Scuderia Centro-Sud Maserati to Romolo Tavoni (ex Ferrari) and in 1965 President of the Autodromo di Monza and C.S.A.I. in Corso Venezia, 43 in Milano this rare letter is in good conditions - with some age signs - two recording pin-holes - very rare indeed pretty unique - the contents of this letter to Romolo Tavoni regards the newly created by Mimmo Dei "Sports Car Club" in Monza Note the last photo of the Scuderia Centro-Sud driving school (in aeroautodromo di Modena) Mr. Mimmo Dei is the man with sun glasses behind Piero Taruffi ... this photo is not with this lot ... this lot is for the letter only ... Historic Note - Mimmo Dei An amateur driver with good placings in the 1930s, he later became a Maserati dealer in Rome. Specializing in racing cars, he founded Scuderia Centro Sud, active between 1956 and 1965, which became the most renowned Italian team in single-seater and sports car racing. Through its driving school and its involvement in Formula One Grand Prix races, Scuderia Centro Sud successfully launched drivers such as Lorenzo Bandini, Joakim Bonnier, and Masten Gregory. Hinted, rather than helped, by Italian automotive sports institutions, Mimmo Dei had to seek funding primarily abroad to develop his business. In the racing world, he was known as an "inventor of men." In 1974, the specialized weekly "AutoSprint" awarded him the "Casco d'oro" (Golden Helmet) for his career and for having promoted numerous young drivers, both Italian and foreign, helping them to shine. Historic Note - Romolo Tavoni Ferrari managing director for both Formula One and Sports cars from 1957 to 1961 - (he won various world championships in both categories) after his departure from Ferrari, Tavoni founded the ATS racing team with his former Ferrari colleagues Fausto Galassi, Girolamo Gardini, Carlo Chiti and Giotto Bizzarrini; he later also joined the CSAI (Italian Automobile Sports Commission) in Milan. In 1965, Tavoni and Luigi Bertett (then president of the Automobile Club of Milan) created the Sports Car Club and the famous "Formula Monza", a series of championships designed for young, emerging drivers. He subsequently became director of the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, working there until 1992 and intermittently until he was around 80 years old.

Historic Note - Mimmo Dei
An amateur driver with good placings in the 1930s, he later became a Maserati dealer in Rome. Specializing in racing cars, he founded Scuderia Centro Sud, active between 1956 and 1965, which became the most renowned Italian team in single-seater and sports car racing.
