Born in 1942, he trained under his father, the first Nakamura Suiran, and went on to receive numerous awards, including the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Silver Rays, in recognition of his contributions to traditional Japanese ceramics. His works have been exhibited widely and are held in museum collections both in Japan and overseas. The flask features the artist’s signature kōchi-style decoration, characterised by vibrant colours and flowing carved lines inspired by early imported Southeast Asian ceramics. This technique, refined over generations in Kyoto, is admired for its bright glazes and refined craftsmanship. The swirling blue and green bands create a dynamic, modern impression while preserving the elegance of traditional Kyoto porcelain. A potter’s mark is impressed on the base, and the original wooden box is signed and sealed. It is originally a sake bottle (tokkuri), but it can also be used as a small flower vase for displaying a single stem. Very good condition with minimal wear. Please refer to the photos for details.
