Two Ukiyo-e Pieces - Samurai Figure (武士図) & Cowherd Riding Ox Playing Flute (牧童騎牛吹笛図) - Takeuchi Seiho (竹内栖鳳,1864-1942) - 日本 (没有保留价)

Work Title: Two Ukiyo-e Pieces - Samurai Figure (武士図) & Cowherd Riding Ox Playing Flute (牧童騎牛吹笛図) Artist: Takeuchi Seiho (竹内栖鳳,1864-1942) Technique: Woodblock Prints Artist's Seal on Prints: Present Paper Size: 17.5×23.5 cm (6.89×9.25 in) Paper Material: Washi (和紙) Publisher & Distributor: Kikuo Shoten (喜久男書店) These two woodblock prints are works by Takeuchi Seiho (竹内栖鳳), a prominent Shin-Nihonga (新日本画) artist of Japan’s Meiji-Taishō period. Both are included in his Seihō Shūgachō (栖鳳習画帖), first published in 1901 — Samurai Figure is featured in Volume 3, and Cowherd Riding Ox Playing Flute in Volume 4 (the album consists of 4 volumes in total). In Seihō Shūgachō, Takeuchi Seiho often employed the technique of "concise ink lines + light color washing", integrating the freehand brushwork of traditional Nihonga (日本画) with the realism of Western painting. For instance, the three-dimensional sense of the ox and the dynamic details of the cowherd in Cowherd Riding Ox Playing Flute, as well as the texture layers of the armor and the dynamic structure of the figure in Samurai Figure, are typical manifestations of his iconic Shin-Nihonga style. These works are not only included in the Complete Catalog of Takeuchi Seihō’s Works but also part of the Takeuchi Seiho collections in institutions such as The Metropolitan Museum of Art, serving as classic examples of his early educational print albums. These prints were reissued in the mid-1970s by Japan’s Kikuo Shoten (喜久男書店). During the photography of Cowherd Riding Ox Playing Flute, an accidental tear occurred at the top-left corner. Due to the passage of time, the washi paper shows signs of oxidation and yellowing, but the overall condition remains good. - The picture is part of the description. The color of the item may be slightly different from the picture (due to camera and screen settings). - The successful bidder will be responsible for any customs duties and taxes (if applicable). - This item will be mailed by the postal service of Taiwan in the form of airmail with insurance attached.
