Elegant intergrown sphalerite, chalcopyrite and galena on sparkling quartz matrix from the classic Nistru-Baita (Nistru Mine), Aurum, Tăuții-Măgherăuș, Maramureș County, Romania. The dark, lustrous sphalerite crystals and bright metallic chalcopyrite are intricately intergrown with sharp galena, all beautifully framed by a carpet of clear quartz points for strong contrast and display impact. This specimen is a characteristic example of the rich polymetallic mineralization of the Baia Mare district and will make a striking addition to any collection of Romanian ore minerals. The Nistru Mine is currently described in the literature as an abandoned/closed gold mine, but the exact year when operations stopped is not clearly documented in the standard public references checked, so a precise closure year cannot be stated with confidence.
