有田瓷器Juko——愿望之器,由神话与工艺孕育 - 陶瓷 - Gallery Kaden - 日本 - Heisei period (1989-present)
This is a refined Arita ware lidded jar created by Gallery Kaden (花伝), a respected porcelain studio in Saga Prefecture known for its dedication to traditional craftsmanship.
The jar belongs to the studio’s “Interior Longevity Pot” series—a modern reinterpretation of traditional Japanese beauty, designed specifically as a decorative interior vessel that harmonizes both function and aesthetics.
Design Concept – A Modern “Longevity Pot” for Interior Use
According to Gallery Kaden, this series was developed under the theme “Reviving the Beauty of Japan.”
The lid is engineered to stay closed even if tilted, allowing the piece to serve safely as an elegant storage jar or simply as a decorative object.
The overall design adopts classical Japanese motifs and condenses them into a refined modern form, making it suitable for contemporary Western and Japanese interiors alike.
Auspicious Dragon & Phoenix Motifs
The jar is richly decorated with hand-painted images of a dragon (ryū) and a phoenix (hōō), two mythical creatures symbolizing balance, strength, virtue, and longevity in East Asian culture.
Delicate brushwork, vibrant overglaze enamels, and generous gold detailing bring the swirling clouds and the dynamic movement of the creatures to life.
A repeating geometric border encircles the rim, inspired by classical textile patterns, adding depth and elegance to the overall composition.
Symbolism & Uses
In Japanese tradition, jars featuring auspicious motifs such as dragons, phoenixes, and the concept of kotobuki (longevity) were used to celebrate important milestones.
In modern interiors, pieces like this are appreciated as:
・decorative lidded jars for display
・elegant containers for small personal items
・meaningful additions to collections of Asian art or fine porcelain
・Its presence brings a sense of refinement and auspicious energy to any space.
Signature & Tomobako
The underside bears the hallmark 花伝造 (Kaden-zō), certifying its authenticity.
It comes with its original wooden tomobako (signed box), inscribed with the title of the work.
