Valbuena 5º is the purest expression of red wine at Vega Sicilia, aged for five years in both oak and bottle, which gives the wine its name: Valbuena 5º. The first year of aging is in barrels and is especially important. It uses 75% French oak and 25% American oak. In this first stage, the wine is built, developing its structure, sweetness, and density. The second year of aging takes place in large wooden vats, and in this phase, it gains elegance, complexity, tension, and subtlety.
