Title: Fugaku Sanjūrokkei (富嶽三十六景) – Sōshū Shichirigahama (相州七里浜) & Kamakurayama Shujin Tōzan (鎌倉山 諸人登山) Ukiyo-e Artist: Katsushika Hokusai (葛飾北斎,1760-1849) Medium: Woodblock Print Signature: Artist’s signature on the block Sheet Size: 27 × 40.8 cm (10.6 × 16.1 in) Sheet Material: Washi (和纸) This piece, Sōshū Shichirigahama (相州七里浜), was supervised by Takamizawa Tadao (高見沢忠雄). These two ukiyo-e woodblock prints are two works from the series Fugaku Sanjūrokkei (富嶽三十六景) created by Katsushika Hokusai (葛飾北斎), a master of ukiyo-e in the late Edo period, between 1830 and 1832. These two prints are reissues from the 1950s to the 1960s. Sōshū Shichirigahama (相州七里浜) depicts the view of Mount Fuji from Shichirigahama Beach in Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture: in the distance rises the iconic, snow-capped peak (rendered in a simple form), a classic work of ukiyo-e landscape art. There are no human figures in the scene; instead, it creates a quiet and slightly desolate atmosphere solely through pure natural scenery, echoing the "sacred mountain belief" in Mount Fuji during the Edo period. Kamakurayama Shujin Tōzan (鎌倉山 諸人登山) portrays people from the Edo period climbing Kamakurayama (located in Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture) to gaze at Mount Fuji from afar. At that time, the "Fuji belief" was widespread; local people often climbed nearby mountains (such as Kamakurayama) to "view Fuji from a distance," thus completing a "spiritual pilgrimage." Fugaku Sanjūrokkei (Fugaku Sanjūrokkei, Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji, 富嶽三十六景) is Hokusai’s magnum opus, created when he was over 70 years old. Initially consisting of 36 works, the series was expanded to 46 pieces due to its immense popularity. Centered on "Mount Fuji in different locations and seasons," this series reflects the "Fuji belief" and travel craze of the Edo period, and its innovative composition and color matching established the pinnacle of ukiyo-e landscape painting. Due to the passage of time, the paper shows signs of oxidation-induced yellowing, minor mold spots, creases, and edge wear. - The picture is part of the description. The color of the item may be slightly different from the picture (due to camera and screen settings). - The successful bidder will be responsible for any customs duties and taxes (if applicable). - This item will be mailed by the postal service of Taiwan in the form of airmail with insurance attached.
