印度银盒,用于猎鹰术(猎鹰食物容器) - 银 - 印度 - 19世纪末至20世纪初

These exquisite silver boxes, delicately crafted in India and acquired some forty years ago from a distinguished antiquarian in Saudi Arabia, were once used in the noble art of falconry to hold food for trained falcons. Each piece displays the refined artistry and ornamental mastery characteristic of traditional Indian silversmithing—finely chased floral motifs, arabesque scrolls, and repoussé work of remarkable intricacy. The forms, varying from lobed to octagonal, are harmoniously proportioned, their lids crowned with small finials or sculpted birds, symbolising grace and vigilance. The elaborate relief patterns, entirely hand-worked, capture the aesthetic dialogue between utility and beauty that defines objects made for princely pastimes. Time has lent these boxes a gentle patina, enriching their surface with depth and warmth. They stand not merely as vessels, but as quiet witnesses to a refined tradition where craftsmanship, ritual, and devotion to the falcon’s art were inseparable. Each piece features a distinctive shape and elaborate hand-chased and pierced decoration, testimony to exceptional artisanal craftsmanship. The largest octagonal box features a finely pierced lid with floral and geometric motifs, topped with a knob finial. The two smaller boxes have lobed forms - one with six lobes and another with four petals - both decorated with intricate engravings of arabesques, vegetal motifs, and calligraphic decorations typical of Islamic art. The silver displays a natural patina attesting to its age and authenticity, with tones varying from silvery gray to warm golden hues, characteristic of unpolished antique silver.
