Doors - Waiting For The Sun (First US pressing Mint and Sealed) - 黑胶唱片 - 1st Mono pressing - 1968
1. General information
Artist: The Doors
Album: Waiting For The Sun
Label: Elektra
Catalog Number: EKL-4024
Format: Vinyl, LP, Album, Mono
Country: US
Year: 1968
Genre: Rock, Psychedelic Rock
2. Description
This is an extremely rare 1st US Mono Pressing of The Doors' third studio album. It is Still Sealed (SS) in its original shrink wrap, which is virtually unheard of for the mono version of this album.
The back cover features the "Elektra Records, 1855 Broadway, New York City 10023" address, confirming this is an original 1968 issue (later pressings have different addresses). This edition features the dedicated Mono mix, which is distinct from the common Stereo version and highly prized by audiophiles.
3. Condition
Vinyl: Mint (M) / Sealed (Presumed Mint as it has never been opened).
Cover: Very Good Plus (VG+). While the album is still sealed, the cover shows signs of shelf wear consistent with its age.
There is visible bumping and wear to the corners where the shrink wrap has split, exposing the cardboard (see detailed photos).
The shrink wrap is original and tight but has opened slightly at the corner tips due to storage over the decades.
No punch holes or cut-outs.
4. Notes for collectors
This is a "Holy Grail" item for Doors collectors. Waiting For The Sun in Mono is significantly rarer than the Stereo version (EKS-74024).
The Mono mix is unique and features differences that are not present on the stereo LP:
"Wintertime Love": Features a completely different vocal take.
"The Unknown Soldier": Has a different mix during the execution section.
"We Could Be So Good Together": Features a different, dryer mix.
Finding a genuine 1968 Mono copy that has never been opened is an exceptional opportunity.
5. Matrix/labels
Matrix / Runout: Not visible (Sealed).
Labels: Presumed to be the classic gold/tan Elektra labels with the large "E" logo (standard for 1968 Mono pressings), but cannot be verified without opening.
Only possibilities of a Red 2nd press Label is that this is a 1st Press Sleeve Crossover Pressing with the first of the Red Label Vinyl Pressings and old sleeve printed stock from the 1st Gold Label Pressing.
This chance is incredibly small, and no real cases of this crossover variant have been found in searches, so you can be confident to see the Gold Labels inside the sealed sleeve.
