Takatsuru Gen - 黄黑色釉面 Guinomi,带金边 - 陶瓷 - 高鶴元 Takatsuru Gen (1938-) - 日本 - 1900-2000

Item Description: This is a striking Japanese sake cup (guinomi) by renowned ceramic artist Takatsuru Gen (1938-), featuring a bold yellow glaze with dramatic black accents and golden rim decoration. The piece exemplifies the artist's mastery of colored glazes and contemporary artistic expression, combining vibrant colors with traditional Japanese aesthetic sensibilities. The cup showcases exceptional craftsmanship with its luminous yellow glaze that creates a powerful visual impact. The exterior features an artistic interplay between bright yellow and deep black glazes, creating an abstract, expressive pattern that demonstrates the spontaneous beauty of the firing process. The most luxurious feature is the golden decoration along the undulating rim, adding elegance and sophistication to the bold color scheme. The interior is finished with a warm cream-colored glaze that provides a subtle contrast to the vivid exterior. The piece features an organic, free-flowing rim with natural irregularity, characteristic of contemporary Japanese studio pottery where artists embrace the beauty of asymmetry (wabi-sabi aesthetic). The base reveals an artist's signature mark, confirming this as an authentic work. The combination of vibrant yellow, bold black, and delicate gold accents reflects the artist's innovative approach to color and decoration in contemporary Japanese ceramics. Takatsuru Gen (b. 1938) is a highly accomplished ceramic artist and member of the Japan Crafts Association (Nihon Kogeikai). He has received numerous prestigious awards including the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition Chairman's Prize (multiple times) and the Japan Ceramic Society Award. His pieces are highly valued by collectors for their innovative approach to traditional techniques and masterful use of colored glazes.
