Par son style, ses matériaux, son piètement et son décor, cette pièce est attribuable à l’époque Napoléon III (Second Empire) ou à une fabrication immédiatement postérieure, conformément aux usages décoratifs de la fin du XIXᵉ siècle. Le couvercle est serti d’un verre biseauté, protégeant une photographie ancienne d’époque, portant la légende suivante : « SAINT-LAURENT-DE-CERDANS – Vue générale prise de la Fontaine Palégry » Saint-Laurent-de-Cerdans est un village catalan des Pyrénées-Orientales, dans le sud de la France. Ce type de boîte illustrée était couramment proposé comme objet souvenir de voyage ou de villégiature à la fin du XIXᵉ siècle. La boîte était destinée à recevoir bijoux, pilules ou petits objets personnels. ENGLISH VERSION Round gilt metal jewellery box – Napoleon III period, 19th century – Photographic souvenir of Saint-Laurent-de-Cerdans Pyrénées-Orientales Description Antique round gilt metal jewellery box, standing on three moulded feet, finely decorated with scroll and foliate motifs, characteristic of French decorative arts from the second half of the 19th century. Based on its style, materials, decorative features and construction, this piece can be attributed to the Napoleon III period (Second Empire) or to a very slightly later production, fully consistent with late 19th-century French workmanship. The lid is mounted with a bevelled glass, protecting an original period photograph, bearing the caption: “SAINT-LAURENT-DE-CERDANS – General view taken from the Fontaine Palégry.” Saint-Laurent-de-Cerdans is a Catalan village in the Pyrénées-Orientales, southern France. Such illustrated boxes were commonly produced and sold as travel or regional souvenirs in the late 19th century. Originally intended to store jewellery, pills or small personal items.
