9 pure linen tea towels with hand embroidered D.L. initials. There was in fact a pack of 12, but only three were ever used and had to be abandoned through wear and tear. This was often the case in France. The French household in those early days had a tendency to buy dozens of them as they were in intensive use, due to no washing machines available yet and every piece of linen had to be carried by the staff in large wicker work basket to the local stream where they were hand washed etc. It was in those days a mammoth task to bring the wet linen back again and often climbing hills to get back to the chateaux. The towels have two red borders of 3 small stripes each.
