The sixteenth-generation Eiraku Zengoro (Soku-zen, 1917-1998), eldest son of the fifteenth-generation Shōzen, entered Kyoto City Industrial Arts School in 1930 but withdrew in 1933 following his father's sudden death, succeeding to the sixteenth generation at age 18 in 1935.
