A refined Chinese tiered display stand, constructed in dark brown lacquered hardwood. The base is composed as an asymmetrical stepped platform with multiple levels, designed for the display of scholar’s objects, small sculptures, or porcelain. Each tier is supported by finely carved openwork brackets, featuring stylised geometric and scroll motifs. The lacquered surface has a soft sheen, accentuating the grain of the wood. Such tiered stands were traditionally used in scholar’s studios and interiors to create balanced compositions and visual hierarchy when displaying treasured objects.
