Description
A well-carved male Ibeji twin figure from the Yoruba people, most likely from the Abeokuta region, known for its academically balanced and carefully proportioned examples.
Although of relatively recent age, this figure stands out for the quality of its execution and its faithful adherence to classical Yoruba canons. The body is upright and well balanced, with clearly defined volumes and a calm, composed presence. The face is sober and expressive, while the coiffure is particularly well detailed, retaining traces of blue pigment.
The surface displays a dark patina with subtle reddish reflections, giving warmth and depth to the sculpture despite the absence of additional ornaments. Such figures were traditionally commissioned to honor deceased twins and to maintain spiritual balance within the family.
An honest and attractive example, appealing both to collectors seeking a well-executed Ibeji and to those interested in the formal language of Yoruba sculpture.
