Meet THE IBOOK CLAMSHELL! The iMAC-2-GO! For your consideration at this wonderful auction is the vintage and hard-to-find iMac G3 366 MHz iBook – Indigo edition, introduced in September 2000. The Clamshell certainly has a fan-basy. "Jeff Goldblum" (American actor, e.g. the Fly, Jurassic Park,…), was asked if it was possible to fall-in-love with a computer. In a sultry voice, he purred “Oh yes; oooohhh yeeeees.” // HERE IS TO THE CRAZY ONES … … the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers,… the ones who see things differently… This one is for the true Apple-fan who wants to add something very special & unique to his/her Collection! You are bidding on a TIME machine, including precious software of yesteryear, ready to use – and to give you a glimp of Apple's history. // iBOOK HISTORY The sleek style and smooth operation of Apple design are what attracted me to Macs when the first iMacs began filling my school’s computer lab. According to Jobs, the iBook G3 CLAMSHELL was a computer designed for consumers and educators. These users had been asking for an “iMac-to-Go,” a computer with the ease of use and approachability found in the iMac G3. Built around a 12.1 inch screen, this new notebook exuded friendliness. It had a comfortable, full-sized keyboard, a CD-ROM drive, USB and 6 hours of battery life. The real story, however, was about "the design" (designed by Jony Ive & his design team). Instead of metal, the iBook was made of durable white translucent plastic coupled with double-injected rubber around the edges for additional durability and color. The curves this rubber formed, coupled with its bright white interior, earned this computer the nickname of “Clamshell.” I think these Macs have more personality than any others. They’re fun and youthful, and proved popular with students and home consumers. It even had a handle! Apple used the first iBook to introduce something brand new to the Mac line: "AirPort wireless networking". The AirPort found in the iBook is primitive compared to today’s, of course (802.11b – it topped out at 11 MBps). And it required an (additional) base station. While it may not be impressive today, this helped put the iBook on the map. AirPort would quickly spread to other Macs. // SPECIAL EDITION (SE) This specific “Special Edition (SE) model is the February 2000-revision that runs faster. The new iBooks came with a faster base CPU clocked at 366 MHz. So if you want to enjoy your investment for as long as possible, choosing "wisely" is advisable. // MAC OS 9: SOME LOVE FOR THE CLASSICS ! Long before the current "macOS Ventura" or even before any of the OS X systems, there was Mac OS 9. While not as aesthetically pleasing compared to current day operating systems, Mac OS 9 was sleek, super responsive and a joy to use. In fact. It still is! This iMac comes with a clean install of "System 9.2.2". Thus: "plug-and-play"! // IMPORTANT NOTES The computer (model M6411) works as it should (extensively tested!). This model runs without a fan, the trackpad is smooth and the keyboard is responsive. – The keyboard and trackpad are responsive (no missing "Chicklets"); – The "carrying handle" on the back is intact and works; – The 24X tray-loading CD-ROM reads CD’s and includes the bezel; – The speaker is loud and clear; – The Firewire and USB ports work; FYI: – The "50 W h LiIon" - battery doesn’t hold a charge anymore (after 22 years)*. But there are experts who can re-build the battery (all necessary parts are included in this bundle). PS/ iBooks that holds charge after all this time don't exist*! >> TO SUM UP There are "normal signs of use" (e.g. very tiny scratches and stains … which are to be expected with a device of this age).
