HUBERT PETITOT & DEGUE A large pair of French art deco wall sconces in nickel plated bronze by Petitot. Made around 1935. They hold nice oversized shades in clear frosted pressed glass. These shades were made by the glass manufactory Degué. This Degué model in thick glass is never signed. It was used by Petitot as well as by Francis Hubens for wall sconces and chandeliers. The bronze mounts have the usual Petitot foundry marks AP (for Alexandre Petitot). And are also stamped "petitot". The sconce is represented in the 1935 Petitot product catalog. I only have the 1934 and the 1936 ones which show variations. The bronze worker Alexandre Petitot started his company in 1857. His son Hubert took over around 1917. The Paris based company of Petitot was a wholesale selling its lamps to lighting shops all over France Europe and the States. Together with Hettier & Vincent Petitot became the largest producer of French art deco lighting in the late 20s and early 30s. Petitot produced precious fixtures in high quality bronze with shades by the best French glass manufacturers. The wall lights are 25 cm high and 26,5 cm deep. The shades have a diameter of 18,5 cm. The sconces are rewired with American candelabra base sockets. For European countries I will place E14 ones. On catawiki my listings have low reserve prices.
