The structure is made of wood and features a copper roof, which has naturally aged with a graceful verdigris tone. Designed in the likeness of a Shinto shrine, it includes finely carved details such as pillars, railings, and stairs. The front is fitted with double doors, adorned with elegant brass metal fittings. These open to reveal an interior space for enshrining sacred objects or deities. Inside is a finely carved wooden figure of Daikokuten, the god of wealth and prosperity, depicted with his iconic mallet and large sack, standing upon rice bales. A signature on the bottom of the figure reads "Made by Awa Jingorō", indicating the skilled artisan. In front of the shrine are two ceramic fox figures representing the divine messengers of Inari, the deity of agriculture and rice. Each fox holds a sacred jewel in its paw, a symbol of abundance and divine power. The foxes, made in a charming traditional style, show signs of age with a crack visible. Interestingly, this shrine brings together Daikokuten, the god of fortune, and Inari, protector of crops and commerce, reflecting a heartfelt wish for both prosperity and protection. It is likely this piece was originally made for private devotion or for installation in a small local shrine, intended to bring blessings to the home or business. The rear panel is inscribed "Gorō Shrine, auspicious day in December, Showa 55 (1980)", offering valuable context to its provenance. Overall, the shrine shows considerable age and usage, with weathering, surface cracks, patina on the metal, stains, and wear visible throughout. The upper left hinge of the doors is detached. The Daikokuten figure has scuffs, stains and a few cracks. Please refer to the photos for detailed condition. Dimensions: approx.
