This is a rare hand knitted bed spread. Rare because the dimensions are todays sizes and yet it was knitted in the early 20th Century when beds were an average of 1m10 -1m20. This bed cover will deck a bed well over 2 meters. The provenance is that I went ,via a lady friend ,to a magnificent property beyond Limoges. I very soon learned that the couple had 5 homes and all over France. They are coming at age and with no children to inherit all the earthly belongings they are slowly disposing of some beautiful pieces amongst this bed cover. The lady told me that she has never used it and inherited the piece through her great grandmother who in fact knitted the cover. The design is a square and each piece is framed with "polka dots". There are alternate rows of horizontal and vertical knitting within the frame. The four sides are rounded and scalloped. For the photography I used the 2m70 horizontally to cover the sides of the bed generously and was still able to cover the pillows as a bolster. But of course you can also deck the bed by using the 2m70 as the vertical length. You will note that I had to use artificial lighting to highlight the cover as it was unusually dark outside. It is an exceptional piece to be loved and cherished once again
