A large Japanese Imari vase of globular form with a long neck, decorated with a vase of peony flowers and the figures of a dragon and a phoenix (ryū and hō-ō), symbols of strength and renewal.
The entire surface is richly adorned with floral motifs and stylised foliage in the traditional Imari palette of red, blue, and gold.
The long neck is embellished with a dense floral pattern in continuity with the body.
Imari ware represents one of the most celebrated forms of Japanese porcelain. Originating in the early 17th century in the Arita kilns of Hizen Province (present-day Saga Prefecture), it was exported through the port of Imari, from which it takes its name.
---The vase is good condition. Some enamel and gold wear consistent with age. Please refer to the pictures for further details.
