由知名艺术家创作的三款日本小木偶和一件传统滑雪胜地纪念品 - 木 - 日本 - 昭和年代(1926-1989)

Item Description This lot consists of three Japanese kokeshi dolls, each with its own distinct character, origin, and artistic background. The first doll (left) is a traditional souvenir kokeshi from the Ishiuchi Ski Resort, made to represent a child of Japan’s snowy regions. It is crafted using birch wood, a material closely associated with cold climates, and features a rustic hut-like base that evokes life in a winter landscape. The maker is unknown, which is typical for regional souvenir kokeshi. The expressive simplicity and natural materials give this piece a strong folk-art charm. The second doll (center) is titled “Beloved Child.” It was created by Aoki Ryoka, a former Japanese-style painter whose kokeshi are known for their elegance, gentleness, and warm presence. The rounded form is richly decorated with floral motifs, and the soft facial expression conveys calm and affection. The artist’s mark is present on the base. This piece was originally sold as a souvenir from Yunishigawa Onsen. The third doll (right) is titled “Dream of Spring.” It was made by Tanaka Kojo, an award-winning kokeshi artist recognized for his distinctive style and slightly unconventional portrayal of young girls. The tall, slender form is decorated with seasonal floral motifs, and the serene expression reflects the artist’s signature atmosphere. The original artist label remains on the base. All three pieces show minor signs of age and handling, such as small surface marks or paint wear, consistent with traditional wooden kokeshi. Overall condition is good, and the set offers an appealing overview of both souvenir and artist-made kokeshi from Japan. Artist Aoki Ryoka Aoki Ryoka studied Japanese-style painting under Nozawa Ryoshu and adopted the character “Ryo” from his teacher’s name. He began creating creative kokeshi dolls around 1958. His works are highly regarded for their refined beauty and gentle emotional tone. He received purchases from the then Crown Prince and Crown Princess Michiko on two occasions and was designated a traditional craftsman by Gunma Prefecture in 2000. His awards include multiple major prizes at national and regional kokeshi exhibitions, including two Prime Minister’s Awards. Tanaka Kojo Tanaka Kojo founded Tanaka Gangu, a kokeshi workshop, in Gunma Prefecture in 1968. He is an award-winning artist at the All Japan Kokeshi Contest and is especially popular for his unique depiction of girls’ faces, which differ subtly from mainstream styles. Today, his workshop is continued by his son under the name Kojo Kokeshi Studio.
