古董日本铁砧,镌有‘Namu Myoho Renge Kyo’(莲花经)铭文 - 日本 - 江戶時代(1600-1868)
[Overview] This is an antique iron Tsuba (sword guard) from the Edo period. It features a simple round shape (Maru-gata) with a rugged, rustic iron surface that displays the aesthetic of "wabi-sabi."
[Design and Inscription] On the front side, there is a vertical inscription with traces of gold inlay. Although the characters are worn and faint due to age, the visible strokes suggest the Buddhist chant "Namu Myoho Renge Kyo" (南無妙法蓮華経 - Glory to the Sutra of the Lotus of the Supreme Law). This phrase is central to Nichiren Buddhism and invokes the power of the Lotus Sutra. Samurai often carried such religious inscriptions on their sword fittings to pray for spiritual protection and peace in the afterlife. The layout of the characters, including "Ho" (法) and "Ren" (蓮), supports this identification.
[Reverse Side] On the reverse side, specifically in the lower right area, there are faint traces of a mark. This appears to be a "Kao" (a stylized monogram signature used by samurai) or a maker's seal, though it is currently illegible due to wear.
[Condition] Material: Iron The item shows significant signs of age, including rust and wear to the gold inlay, which adds to its antique character. The iron has developed a deep, dark patina. Please refer to the photos for details on the condition and the faint inscriptions.
[Size] 70 mm x 65 mm Thickness: approx. 3 mm Weight: 92g
