Lavrentyev & Kravtsov - 盒 - 纸浆 - Morozko / Father Frost
Hand-painted Russian lacquer box from the Palekh school, depicting a scene from the famous Russian fairy tale “Morozko” (Father Frost).
The composition shows Morozko (Father Frost) with his staff in a winter forest, together with the young heroine of the tale. The presence of forest animals and gifts is characteristic for this narrative scene, symbolising reward, purity and justice — a classic moral theme within Russian folklore.
The box is executed in traditional Palekh technique: tempera painting on papier-mâché with fine gold detailing on a deep black lacquer ground. The interior is finished in red lacquer.
The base is signed and titled in Cyrillic, including:
• the fairy tale title: «Морозко»
• artist signatures: Lavrentyev (Лаврентьев) and Kravtsov (Кравцов)
Multiple signatures are typical for Palekh works, often indicating the principal artist and an assisting painter.
