The adopted son of the Kyoto Nihonga painter Imao Keinen, Imao Keisho studied painting under his father. Something of a loner, he avoided any of the painting associations and their exhibitions. Instead he showed his work in a series of one-man shows. He was favored with many private commissions, including fusuma sliding panels in major Kyoto temples.
