This exceptional set by Living National Treasure Takahashi Keiten showcases his mastery of both kettle and brazier casting. The white-surfaced flat-round kettle features delicate bamboo pattern relief work across its body, demonstrating Takahashi's signature refined surface treatment. The pale, lustrous finish contrasts beautifully with the warm bronze tones of the demon-face brazier. Artist Profile Takahashi Keiten was born in 1920 in Yamagata City and inherited the family casting business in 1938, dedicating himself exclusively to tea kettle production. He achieved his first acceptance to the Nitten exhibition in 1951 and was selected seven times thereafter. His innovative forms combined with refined surface textures and patterns earned him numerous awards. In 1961, he created a presentation kettle for the Emperor, and in 1979, another for the Crown Prince. He received the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Fourth Class in 1992, and in 1996, became the first person from Yamagata Prefecture to be designated as a Living National Treasure for tea ceremony kettles. He promoted Yamagata casting nationwide through exhibitions from the 1960s onward. Takahashi passed away in June 2009 at age 89, leaving an enduring legacy in tea ceremony metalwork.
