Mengu Mempo or Face Armor (face guard) from Armor of Samurai in Japan. This face armor mencho is a cheek and Chin guard that is located under the eyes and nose. The Face mask shows the importance was placed on their functionality as military equipment (kogusoku). This piece is made from Iron with black and red Lacquer somewere in the late Edo period.
