西亞 金色 带有颗粒装饰的耳环

A finely modelled Western Asiatic gold earring, consisting of a fine split loop with a pendant attached at the base. The pendant is composed of a gold spherical body, topped by a cylindrical cap decorated with two rows of delicate gold granules and a central horizontal band. Minor wear consistent with age such as scratches and earthy encrustations to the surface. Minor earthy encrustations to the surface, alongside wear such as scratches and indentations consistent with age. An indentation and slight crack to the gold sphere. Many grand civilizations inhabited the area of Western Asia in Antiquity, and their wealth and prosperity is witnessed by the very sophisticated precious metal crafting of jewellery. Gold would have been hammered down to a thin layer and manipulated into different shapes. Gold and silver jewellery would have featured gold granules, glass and semi-precious stone inlays and detailed engravings. Very fine granulation along with filigree, were at the centre of Near Eastern and Western Asiatic jewellery production and were later adopted by the Greeks, Etruscans and Romans. Measurements: L 1.3cm x W 0.7cm x H 2.3cm Weight: 2.39g Provenance: Ex property of a late Japanese collector, 1970-2000s.
