Rare Late Edo (Bakumatsu) Blue & White Plate with Heron and Bamboo – Hand-Painted, c. mid-19th century An authentic Japanese Edo-period blue-and-white porcelain plate, hand-painted in underglaze cobalt with a heron standing among bamboo. The composition is notable for its restrained brushwork, open spacing, and painterly confidence. The porcelain body, glaze tone, and multiple kiln spur scars to the base are consistent with late Edo manufacture (circa 1750–1820). Brushwork shows freehand execution with visible variation in cobalt density, characteristic of Edo period wares. Condition is described to the best of my knowledge and supported by the photographs, which are an essential part of the listing.
