2. Description
This is a rare first edition misprint of the 1964 masterpiece from The Ronettes. Produced by Phil Spector, this album is the definitive representation of the "Wall of Sound"—a production style characterized by dense, orchestral layers that revolutionized pop music.
While Spector famously preferred "Back to Mono," this Stereo pressing is highly sought after for its rarity and the unique spatial depth it brings to hits like "Be My Baby" and "Walking in the Rain." This specific copy features the famous "Ronnettes" misspelling on the red and yellow Philles labels, a mistake found only on early pressings from the Monarch plant.
3. Condition
Vinyl: Excellent Plus (EX+)
Cover: Very Good Plus (VG+). The front cover is bright with the "STEREO" stamp clearly visible at the top. The spine is solid. The back cover shows significant foxing (age spots) and some staining near the edges, as documented in the photos.
Labels: Near Mint (NM). The labels are incredibly clean with no writing or spindle trails. The "Ronnettes" misprint is sharp and perfectly legible.
4. Notes for Collectors
RARE MISPRINT: This copy features the highly collectible typographical error on the labels where the band's name is spelled with two "N"s (The Ronnettes).
MONARCH FIRST PRESSING: Identified by the MR in a circle logo and the Delta symbol in the dead wax. Monarch pressings are widely considered the highest quality US pressings of this era.
STEREO/MONO HYBRID: This is a true 1964 rarity where the Stereo record (LP-4006) was issued in a Mono cover (PHLP-4006) that was hand-stamped "STEREO." This was common for early, limited stereo runs at the Philles label.
FIRST EDITION STATUS: Guaranteed original 1964 pressing. The combination of the Stereo format, the Monarch pressing, and the "Ronnettes" error makes this one of the most desirable variants of this album in existence.
