古埃及人的复制品 Amulet - 14 mm
Replica of Egyptian Steatite Head – Pendant Amulet
Civilization: Ancient Egypt
Period: New Kingdom – early Third Intermediate Period (ca. 14th–9th century BC)
Material: Steatite with blue coloration residues
Dimensions: 14 × 10 × 7 mm
Type: Anthropomorphic amulet with pierced suspension loop
Description
Replica of a Tiny Egyptian anthropomorphic head carved in steatite, originally colored blue, with a pierced loop at the top for suspension as a pendant. Despite its very small size, the object shows careful workmanship and well-balanced proportions.
The face is idealized, with symmetrical and serene features, framed by a stylized tripartite wig, a typical element of Egyptian iconography. This is not an individual portrait, but a symbolic representation, most likely with a protective function.
Traces of blue coloration are still visible and are particularly significant from both a symbolic and conservation standpoint.
Dating (reasoned)
The combination of:
blue-colored / glazed steatite,
idealized facial features,
simplified tripartite wig,
integrated pierced suspension loop,
is consistent with productions ranging from the New Kingdom to the early Third Intermediate Period. The miniature size and personal use suggest a date after the height of the New Kingdom, most likely 12th–9th century BC, while retaining earlier iconographic traditions.
Meaning and function
In ancient Egypt, the blue color was associated with the sky, the primeval waters, regeneration, and divine protection. The head symbolized identity, vitality, and the enduring presence of the individual.
The object was intended to be:
worn as a personal protective amulet,
or later placed in the tomb as a personal item.
Rarity
A not common example due to:
its extremely small size,
the intact suspension loop,
surviving blue coloration,
well-preserved facial details.
Condition
Very good condition for the type and size. Consistent ancient patina, facial details still legible, intact loop. No visible modern restorations.
Provenance
From a European private collection, acquired on the antiquities market prior to the introduction of modern regulations governing the trade in archaeological material.
