葛之江水差 - 日本箭根制成的清水容器 - 陶瓷 - 小峠葛芳 Kotoge Katsuyoshi (1946-) - 日本 - 1900-2000

Item Description This is an exquisite Mizusashi (fresh water container) created by Kotoge Katsuyoshi (Kappou) of Tanzan Kiln, featuring elegant Kuzu (Japanese arrowroot) motifs painted on its surface. The water container showcases the refined aesthetic of Kyoyaki (Kyoto ceramics) tradition with its graceful form and sophisticated decoration. The vessel displays delicate brushwork depicting Kuzu vines and flowers, a classic motif in Japanese tea ceremony ceramics that symbolizes autumn beauty. The painting demonstrates Kotoge's masterful control of color glazes and his deep understanding of traditional Japanese decorative arts. The cylindrical form with gentle curves creates an elegant silhouette, while the carefully balanced proportions reflect the potter's expertise in creating functional tea ceremony utensils. Kotoge Katsuyoshi established Tanzan Kiln in 1974 in the scenic Sumiyama area of Uji, Kyoto, an area renowned for its pure water and ideal environment for ceramic production. His work continues the prestigious lineage of Kyoto ceramics, combining technical excellence with artistic sensitivity to create pieces that honor traditional aesthetics while expressing his individual artistic vision. Size Height: 22.5 cm Width: 13.0 cm Depth: 13.0 cm Condition The piece is in good vintage condition with no notable damage or repairs. Minor wear consistent with age and use may be present. Kotoge has achieved significant recognition in the Japanese ceramic arts community. His work has been selected for the Japan Traditional Crafts Kinki Exhibition consecutively 18 times, the Kyoto Prefectural Arts and Crafts Exhibition 10 times, and the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition 7 times. He has received the Mayor's Prize at the Kyoyaki-Kiyomizuyaki Exhibition twice. In 1981, he became a full member of the Japan Kogei Association.
