西亞 青金石 动物形态的头部护身符 (沒有保留價)
A fine Western Asiatic amulet in the shape of an animal, possibly a feline's head, formed from lapis lazuli. The creature has an oval face with a square mouth and triangular ears. Its features are outlined with short incisions. The amulet is perforated longitudinally for suspension. Some wear, chipping (particularly to the ears), indentations and earthy encrustations to the surface.
Please note, this is a small amulet. The dimensions are provided below.
On top of gold, stones such as lapis lazuli, carnelian, turquoise or rock crystal were used for jewellery. Representations of animals comprised a large portion of the Ancient Near Eastern artistic repertoire. Specifically, images of wild animals and creatures considered dangerous or powerful appear in all periods of ancient Near Eastern art, dating back to the Neolithic period.
Measurements: L 0.6cm x W 0.7cm
Provenance: Ex S.M. Collection, London, Mayfair, acquired 1970s-90s.
