Vere People, North-Eastern Nigeria & Cameroon, 19th century This heavy necklace, possibly maybe a hip ornament, comprises 34 cast smaller and larger spherical beads, strung alternately, and one very large central bead that is cushion-shaped and has been cast with a large, pearled edge with 12,5 cm diameter. All are strung on a rope. Each component has superb wear and patina - no doubts about the age.. A similar necklace is in the Afrika Museum in Berg en Dal in the Netherlands is illustrated in Grootaers & Eisenburger (2002, p. 357).
