The crystal coloration ranges from clear to pale yellow to a rich golden hue, suggesting the presence of citrine (a yellow variety of quartz) alongside rock crystal (quartz ialino). The golden-yellow shades and the clarity of the crystals are strong indicators of heat-treated citrine, which is common in geodes from Madagascar. Natural citrine is rare, and most citrine on the market is actually amethyst or smoky quartz that has been heat-treated to produce the yellow color.
