Roman Empire, Late Roman period, ca. 4th–5th century AD
A bronze Roman seal ring with an oval engraved bezel depicting a female bust in profile, rendered in a Late Roman imperial style. The portrait shows stylized facial features and coiffure consistent with Late Roman empress imagery, suggesting a woman of high status.
While no inscription survives to allow secure identification, the style of the portrait is comparable to known representations of Late Roman empresses, such as Aelia Eudoxia, wife of Emperor Arcadius. For this reason, the figure may represent an idealized imperial woman or empress-type portrait, rather than a guaranteed likeness of a specific historical person.
Seal rings of this type were used both as personal identifiers and symbols of allegiance to imperial authority, often worn by officials, soldiers, or individuals connected to the administrative or military elite.
The bezel engraving is partly worn, consistent with long-term use, but the portrait remains clearly legible. The ring displays an authentic ancient patina and surface wear consistent with age.
