Nebbiolo from the Sottocastello di Novello cru in Italy’s Piedmont — one of the classic sub-zones for Barolo. This vintage earned an excellent 95 points from Falstaff, reflecting its balance of power and finesse. In the glass it shows a bright, fine garnet-red colour. On the nose there are intense aromas of raspberry, pomegranate, fresh plum and truffle, complemented by balsamic and spicy notes that evolve with aeration. The palate is supple yet structured, with plenty of ripe fruit up front and pithy, vivid tannins that give depth and persistence. Ca’ Viola’s Barolo combines traditional Piedmontese winemaking with organic viticulture, vinified with long maceration and aged in large oak and concrete to preserve Nebbiolo’s purity. This wine pairs beautifully with roasted red meats, braised dishes and aged cheeses, and has the structure for further cellaring.
