North Eastern Pakistani first half XX century
A lovely twisted silver (low degree tested silver alloy) torque from the valleys of the Hindu Kush, the Kafir tribes. A secluded people with their own languages, religions and culture.
Their land was only known after their forced conversion to Islam in 1895/1896 as Nuristan.
The Kalash could only preserve their own ancient culture in remote parts of the country. Mostly around Chitral.
This beautiful piece of authentic ethnic jewelry comes from a private collection. It was worn by women and girls often as part of their dowry.
