The aim was to take advantage of the quality of local fruit to produce a fine spirit. After several attempts and experiments, it was in 1875 that they finally launched a spirit made from orange peel in a square amber-coloured bottle: Cointreau was born. This perfect marriage of sweet and bitter orange peel defines the characteristic flavour of Cointreau.
