This Apple II Europlus dates from the early 1980s (circa 1980–1981), during the golden era of early European personal computing. // Historical background The Apple II Europlus is the European variant of the iconic Apple II series (= rarer than US Apple II), originally introduced in the late 1970s. To meet European standards and demand, Apple manufactured these systems in Ireland, adapting them for PAL video output, local keyboards, and power requirements. The Apple II line played a pivotal role in the rise of personal computing in homes, schools, and universities across Europe, and became especially influential in education, science, and early software development. Today, original Europlus models—particularly complete systems with expansion cards—are increasingly scarce and highly regarded by collectors. // Some details The machine has been thoroughly cleaned, including the keyboard and keycaps, and presents well considering its age. On the underside of the computer, an original ownership sticker is still present, indicating its provenance: VLVU – Instituut voor Lerarenopleiding Sectie Natuurkunde Diemen, The Netherlands This adds an interesting historical and educational context to the machine’s past. // Why do I auction it? Due to lack of time, and also because I personally prefer working on later (vintage) Macintosh systems, I am unable to continue this restoration project. This card must be soldered to the motherboard. The previous owner claimed it was functional, however no guarantee can be given. – Drive Interface Card (1978, Made in the USA) Intended for connecting two floppy disk drives. Please note: no floppy drive is included in this lot. – Language Card (1977, Made in the USA) // Optional related item A compatible external floppy disk drive (untested) is also being auctioned separately this week.
