西亞 青銅色 Anthropomorphic Appliqué (沒有保留價)
A fine Western Asiatic bronze appliqué depicting an anthropomorphic figure. The figure, possibly representing a deity, features a square torso adorned with two small perforations, above which is a protruding, triangular face with stylised features including sunken eyes and sharp chin. A conical headdress, enriched with linear grooves, extends above, and two arms, similarly decorated with linear incisions, curve outwards from the body. A crescentic finial extends at the base. The reverse presents a small attachment loop, which is now blocked by earthy encrustations. Earthy encrustations, patination and wear such as scratches to the surface.
Many grand civilizations inhabited the area of Western Asia in antiquity, and their wealth and prosperity is witnessed by their sophisticated metal crafting. The relationship between terrestrial and divine realms was a recurring motif in Near Eastern art. Whether in the forms of large votive sculptures or small ornaments and jewellery, these images were meant as tribute and bestow protection upon their wearers.
Measurements: Circa H 2.4cm x W 2.1cm
Provenance: Ex Japanese private collection, formed 1970-2010.
