Traditional Lovale mask of the Chokwe from Angola. Height : 27 cm. This Chokwe Luena mask is dated from the mid or second part of the 20th century and comes with a certificate of authenticity. Traditional Lovale mask of the Chokwe from Angola. The mask presented belongs to the Lovale ethnic group of Angola. It has several characteristic features such as the crosses on both cheeks. Carved from dark wood, it has a smooth patina, which indicates its use and age. The face of the mask is rounder than normal and flattened with stylized features. The half-closed eyes and wide narrow mouth suggest an expression of stress. A cap made of plant fibers. The forehead has 5 points with wavy hair extending to the side. The nose is shaped in steps.
