Hand-carved forest-region mask attributed to the Dan cultural area (Côte d’Ivoire / Liberia region), dating to the early 20th century. The mask displays characteristic features: oval face, narrow slit eyes, pronounced forehead and triangular mouth. The rim shows perimeter perforations used to attach raffia or textile costume elements, indicating it was originally worn as part of a full masquerade ensemble. The interior is hand-hollowed with visible traditional tool marks and natural oxidation. A suspension loop is present at the top, traditionally used to hang the mask inside a dwelling or shrine when not in ceremonial use. Residue on the top area is consistent with ritual handling or offerings. Surface shows an authentic aged patina with handling wear around nose and mouth areas. Stable age crack visible on the interior, consistent with natural wood drying. No restoration observed. Accompanied by a gallery certificate.
