Description
This pendant, dated to the Byzantine period, is defined by its spherical form and regularly carved grooves encircling the surface. The spherical shape may be interpreted as an abstract geometric form associated in Byzantine material culture with concepts of unity and cosmic order. The vertical carved channels emphasize the volume of the object and create a controlled surface articulation.
The integrated suspension loop at the upper section indicates that the pendant was designed to be worn on the body as a functional personal ornament. Formed as a single piece with the body, this attachment reflects the functional, durability-oriented metalworking practices characteristic of the Byzantine period. In this context, the object can be classified within the group of personal adornments in which geometric abstraction and practical use are combined.

Statements regarding dating, function, symbolic interpretation, and material identification represent high-probability academic assessments based on typological comparisons, parallels in museum collections, and expert opinion; definitive conclusions require advanced laboratory analysis and fall outside the scope of the platform’s sales process.
Prospective buyers are advised to evaluate the images in conjunction with the stated measurements, as high-resolution photography may influence perceived scale.
